Biography of Alexey Murashev

Alexey Andrianovich Murashev was born on July 30, 1919, in the village of Murashi, now in the Tulun district of the Irkutsk region, in a peasant family. He completed 6 classes of an incomplete secondary school and worked at a newspaper printing press in the Chita region. He graduated from an aero club and joined the Red Army in 1938. In 1940, he graduated from the Bataysk Military Aviation School for Pilots.

Service in World War II

From the first day of the Great Patriotic War, Alexey Murashev served on the fronts. Flying on fighters such as the I-153, LaGG-3, La-5, and La-7, he fought in 10 different fronts, including battles near Leningrad and Stalingrad, on the Kuban, and in the Kursk Bulge. By August 1943, as the commander of the 3rd Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment (235th Fighter Aviation Division, 10th Fighter Aviation Corps, Voronezh Front), Captain Murashev had completed 328 combat sorties and engaged in 69 aerial battles, personally shooting down 17 enemy aircraft and 9 as part of a group.

Hero of the Soviet Union

On September 28, 1943, for his courage and bravery demonstrated in battles with the enemy, Alexey Murashev was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. By May 1945, he had completed around 450 successful combat sorties, participated in 125 aerial battles, personally shooting down 22 enemy planes and 9 as part of a group. He was seriously wounded in combat and ended the war as a regiment commander.

Later Years

After the war, Alexey Andrianovich continued to serve in the Air Force as long as his health allowed him to fly combat aircraft. In 1947, he completed the flight and tactical training courses for officer personnel. From 1972, Colonel Alexey Murashev served in the reserves. He worked as a master of the Technical Quality Control Department at a mining automation plant in Dnepropetrovsk. He received numerous awards, including the Order of Lenin (twice), the Order of the Red Banner (three times), the Order of Alexander Nevsky, the Order of the Patriotic War 1st Class (twice), the Order of the Red Star, and various medals and foreign orders.
