Alessandro Cortini: A Musical Journey

Early Life and Education

Alessandro Cortini, the renowned Italian musician, was born in Bologna and raised in Forlì. Cortini moved to the United States to pursue guitar studies at the Hollywood Conservatory. After graduating, he shifted his focus to keyboards, leaving the guitar behind for a while.

Music Career

In 2001-2002, Cortini toured as a guitarist with The Mayfield Four in support of their album "Second Skin." Later, he returned to teaching at the Hollywood Conservatory, but a fateful audition announcement for Nine Inch Nails would change his career trajectory.

Nine Inch Nails

Trent Reznor, the frontman of Nine Inch Nails, was immediately impressed with Cortini's skills. Cortini became a keyboardist for the band's live performances during the "Live: With Teeth" (2005-2006) and "Year Zero Performance 2007" (2007) tours. He also contributed to the Recording Artist Program in 2006.

After the dismissal of Nine Inch Nails' live lineup in September 2007, Cortini continued to collaborate with Reznor and other members in the recording of the album "Ghosts I-IV" (2008). He also joined the band on their "Lights In The Sky Over North/South America" tour (2008). However, in December 2008, Cortini announced his departure from Nine Inch Nails to pursue other projects.

Modwheelmood and Other Collaborations

Alongside his work with Nine Inch Nails, Cortini is also the frontman of the Los Angeles-based electronic-alternative band Modwheelmood, which he formed with ex-Abandoned Pools guitarist Pelle Hillström. Modwheelmood has released several EPs, including a remix of Nine Inch Nails' "The Great Destroyer" for the "Year Zero Remixed" album.

Cortini has also briefly filled in for Morgan Nicholls in the band Muse in September 2009.
