Biography of Alex Band
Alex Band, whose full name is Alex Max Band, is a musician and a well-known member of the band "The Calling". Born into a family of artists, his father Charles Band is a renowned horror film director, and his grandfather Albert Band was also a director. Alex's family has Italian roots and frequently travels to Italy for vacations. They used to own their own castle in Giove, a central province in the Umbria region of Italy.
As a child, Alex played minor roles in his father's films. He grew up near Palmero Street, which later inspired his first album, which he named "Camino Palmero". At the age of 8, Alex started composing songs and learned to play the guitar.
Early Music Career
At a young age, Alex formed his first musical group called "Maybe Solitude" with his friend Jetro. Although the band eventually disbanded, Alex became a member of a new band called "Generation gap". The band appeared in a cameo role in the film "Bar Ugly Coyote". At the age of 14, Alex got a tattoo of Kokopelli, a fertility deity often depicted as a hunchbacked flute player (often with a large phallus and tentacle-like appendages on its head). Kokopelli later became a symbol of "The Calling".
At the age of 15, Alex signed a contract with RCA Records and formed the band "The Calling". Band had to drop out of school to pursue music, but he continued his education at home and obtained a high school diploma. Their first single, "Wherever You Will Go", immediately topped the American charts and stayed at the top for several weeks, which was a huge achievement for the young band. The band's next singles, "Adrienne" and "Could it be any harder", also became very popular. However, their second album, "Two", did not reach the top of the charts, although the first single from the album, "Our Lives", became widely popular and was even used in promotional events and the Olympics.
Solo Career and Recent Work
Alex Band's music captured the attention of popular bands such as "Pearl Jam", "Bon Jovi", "Live", "Train", and "Matchbox Twenty". While still a member of "The Calling", he decided to pursue a solo career. Chad Kroeger offered Band to perform a cover of Carlos Santana's hit "Why Don't You & I". Initially, Kroeger himself was supposed to cover Santana's hit, but it could have potentially affected the popularity of his own album, which was being released at the same time.
In 2005, Band signed a contract with Ron Fair's recording studio, a subsidiary of Geffin Records. His new album has already been recorded and will be released in mid-2008. Music videos for the songs "Tonight" and "Please", as well as their demo versions, were recently released on Alex Band's official website.
In 2007, Band recorded the song "It Doesn't Get Better Than This", which served as the soundtrack for the film "Bratz". He also co-wrote the song "Coming Home" with Michael Allan, which was featured in the movie "Final Season".
