The Genesis of Ivan-Tsarevich
The rock band Ivan-Tsarevich has etched its name in the annals of Russian rock music, captivating audiences with its unique sound and captivating performances. The band's origins trace back to the early 1990s when singer Valery Naumov and drummer Vadim Timoshenko embarked on a joint project known as "Black on White."
A Shared Vision: The Rebirth of a Band
Fate took the duo down different paths for a time, but their creative bond remained unbreakable. Valery Naumov, armed with a degree from the Gnesin Academy, ventured abroad to Italy, Belgium, and France, honing his skills as a concert performer and studio musician. Meanwhile, Vadim Timoshenko immersed himself in sound engineering and composing.
Upon Naumov's return, their creative collaboration was reignited, culminating in the establishment of a recording studio and the birth of Ivan-Tsarevich. The band assembled a formidable lineup: Valery Naumov on lead vocals, Mikhail Khorin on guitar, Andrey Zhikin on bass, Max Oleynik on drums, and Tatiana Kiseleva and Natalia Sechkina on backing vocals and gusli.
Epic-Rock: A Fusion of Heavy Metal and Russian Heritage
By 1999, Ivan-Tsarevich had forged a concert program unlike anything seen before in Russia. It blended the power of contemporary heavy rock with cutting-edge sound technology and theatrical elements steeped in Russian folklore. The band's approach, dubbed "epic-rock," embraced epic poems, ballads, and folk songs, infused with the raw energy of heavy metal and a touch of theatrical flair.
International Recognition: A Trip to the Land of the Rising Sun
That same year, the band embarked on an extensive tour of Japan, where they shared the stage with the renowned Moscow Caprice ballet company. This experience opened up new horizons for Ivan-Tsarevich, introducing their music to a global audience.
A Homecoming and Debut Album
Upon their triumphant return to Russia, the band recorded their debut album, "Ivan-Tsarevich - 1." They quickly established themselves as a regular fixture in Moscow's vibrant rock club scene, performing at venues such as Svalka, R-Club, Zapasnik, Estakada, and Avalon.
