Biography of Alex Gregory

Early Life and Education

Alex Gregory was born on March 11, 1984, in Cheltenham, England. He learned the art of rowing in Evesham, where his coach was Mark Earnshaw, who was also a history teacher at the time. Gregory received his first rowing vest in 2004, at the Under-23 World Championships in Poland, where he finished eleventh. He continued to excel in rowing, finishing fourth in the doubles at the 2005 World Championships and eighth in the singles the following year. Gregory graduated from Reading University in 2006 and began representing his country in rowing on a regular basis.

Early Career

In 2007, Gregory placed fifteenth in the quadruple sculls at the World Championships in Munich and was selected as part of the reserve team for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. As a participant in the 'Siemens'-sponsored program to improve the British team, Gregory made significant progress in 2009, winning the GB Rowing Senior Trials in pairs. He earned a spot in the new British quadruple sculls for the 2009 World Cup series, where he won two gold medals and one bronze. This made Gregory a "novice" in a boat where all three crew members were Beijing medalists.

Olympic Success and World Championships

At the 2012 Olympics in London, Gregory competed in the quadruple sculls alongside Pete Reed, Tom James, and Andrew Triggs-Hodge. Despite pressure from the experienced Australian team, the British crew led from the start and became Olympic champions. In the 2012 World Cup season, Gregory also competed in the men's quadruple sculls and won gold in both Belgrade and Lucerne. However, the Australian crew surpassed the British team in Munich, pushing them to second place.

In the 2011 World Championships in Bled, Slovenia, Gregory was a member of the men's quadruple sculls, winning gold and leaving Greece in second place. In the 2011 World Cup series, the British quadruple sculls team, including Gregory, finished first in Munich and Lucerne. Gregory also participated in the GB Rowing Team Senior Trials in 2011, where he finished second in the pairs event with Tom James.

Personal Life

Alex Gregory is in a relationship with Emily and they have a son named Jasper. His motto as an athlete is "Gold or nothing."
