Arman Melikyan

Born in Armenia, Arman Melikyan is a prominent figure in the Armenian public, state, and political spheres.

Early Life and Education

Melikyan pursued his higher education at Yerevan State University from 1982 to 1989, graduating with a degree in philology. He continued his academic journey at the same university as an aspiring graduate student from 1989 to 1992.

Career in Media

In 1989, Melikyan embarked on his career as a junior staff member at the Yeghishe Charents Museum of Literature and Art. His talent and dedication led him to become the head of the "Respublika" creative association at Armenia's State Committee for Television and Radio (Goскомтелерадио Армении) in 1991. During 1991-1992, he served as the artistic director of the "Ayluyr" television studio under the same committee.

Ascent in Government

In 1992, Melikyan ascended to the role of head of the "Artsakh" studio of the State Committee for Television and Radio of Armenia. His political career flourished when he was appointed deputy head of the Presidential Staff in 1992-1993.

Diplomatic Service

From 1993 to 1995, Melikyan served as the second secretary in the European Countries Department of the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He then represented Armenia as the second secretary at the Armenian Embassy in France (1993-1995) and later as the first secretary (1995-1997).

Return to Armenia

In 1995, Melikyan returned to Armenia and took on the role of Permanent Representative of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) in Armenia (1995-1997). He subsequently led the Prime Minister's Staff (1997-1998) and served as Secretary of the Security Council under the President of Armenia (1997-1999).

Arrest and Charges

On December 15, 1999, Melikyan was arrested under suspicion of involvement in the conspiracy against Nahiri Unanyan, based on allegations made by Gagik Jangirian, the chief military prosecutor of Armenia.

Post-Arrest Career

Following his release, Melikyan served as an advisor to the President from 1999 to 2003. He then assumed the role of Chairman of the Council of the Public Television and Radio Company of Armenia (2003-2013).

Diplomatic Missions Abroad

On December 30, 2014, Melikyan was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to Argentina, where he currently serves.
