International Draughts Master with a Rich Career
Early Life and Junior SuccessAlexander Baljakin was born in the Soviet Union, where he began his draughts career. As a junior, he emerged as a promising player and captured the World Junior Championship in 1980.
Soviet, Belarusian, and Dutch Championships
Baljakin went on to represent the Soviet Union, Belarus, and later the Netherlands in international competitions. He claimed the Soviet Championship title in 1982, 1988, and 1989. From 1993 to 1998, he dominated the Belarusian Championship, winning it six times consecutively. After relocating to the Netherlands, Baljakin became a force to be reckoned with, capturing the Dutch Championship in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, and 2014. He also finished as runner-up in 2004, 2008, 2012, and 2015.
International Achievements
On the international stage, Baljakin achieved significant accolades. He secured a silver medal at the World Championship in 1986 and a bronze medal in 2005. In 2009, he triumphed in the European Blitz Championship.
