Biography of Alexander Yegorov
Alexander Yegorov is a Soviet and Ukrainian composer, producer, and singer-songwriter. He was born in an unfortunate circumstance, as he never knew his father. At the age of five, his mother enrolled him in a music school, where he studied piano. To support the family, Yegorov's mother had to work in trade. Soon after, she remarried and moved to another city, leaving Alexander in the care of his grandparents. When Alexander was 10 years old, his grandfather passed away, and he had to take on the responsibilities of the household as his grandmother was unable to manage due to health issues. This situation made it difficult for Alexander to excel in school and continue his music education. He eventually dropped out of music school in the fifth grade and was expelled from secondary school after the eighth grade due to his behavior.
At the age of 15, Alexander Yegorov left for Kyiv with borrowed money to buy his first instrument. He began earning money by playing at weddings, clubs, and dances. He later joined the bands of Oleg Sartakov and Vadim Tyshler. At 18, he embarked on a solo career and traveled across the former USSR, gaining professional experience in various recording studios, from Almaty to "Lenfilm." Several years later, he met Arkadiy Vikhorev and Alexander Klepov in Kyiv, who later prepared him for the "Jurmala-90" competition, which brought him tremendous success. It was with these individuals that Yegorov recorded his first album, titled "Holodno Mne" ("I Feel Cold").
In the late 1980s, Alexander participated in several minor Ukrainian and all-union music competitions. However, his major breakthrough came in 1990 when he and his team – Arkadiy Vikhorev, Alexander Klepov, and Pavel Olishevsky – won the Grand Prix and Audience Award at the music festival in Jurmala. This marked a definite success and a turning point in his career. After Jurmala, Yegorov was offered several contracts, gained sponsors, agents, money, and prospects. However, an event that dramatically changed his life prevented him from pursuing these opportunities. In defense of his mother, he broke the law. While participating in the qualifying round in Jurmala, Alexander was already under investigation, with temporary releases for the competition.
After his release in 1993, Yegorov decided not to return to solo performances and focused on producing. Among his projects during that time were artists such as Rosita Chevelite and Oksana Khozhai. In 1996, he completely left the show business industry. He wrote songs on demand for private VIP individuals, which were never aired. In 1996, together with the company "Klass-A," he organized a football match between the "Starco" team of Russian pop stars and Ukrainian musicians at the Republican Stadium in Kyiv. He continued working on this project for several more years but eventually found it unsatisfying.
Alexander Yegorov has also worked as a composer and lyricist for films and theatrical productions. He has collaborated on numerous films with Oksana Bayrak and Alexander Kopeykin. In late 2009, Yegorov decided to return to his solo career. During his absence from the stage, he accumulated several songs, which led to the idea of creating an album. The decision was made on September 2, 2009, and by September 15, the album "Idu Po Zime" ("Walking in Winter") was ready. It included five compositions from previous years and eight specially written songs. The album was presented at the end of 2009. On February 5, 2010, a music video for the song "Gulyanka" ("Celebration") from the album "Idu Po Zime" was released, just before the second round of presidential elections. The socially conscious, occasionally provocative, and somewhat controversial lyrics of the song immediately gained attention. The video was exclusively distributed online. Yegorov's future plans include recording new music videos and working on his next album.
Since May 2011, Alexander Yegorov has been hosting the author's TV show "Neformat" on the "City" channel. He is married and has two sons named Ivan and Timur. He is a devoted fan of Kyiv's "Dynamo" football team since 1975. Yegorov enjoys fishing and good company. He also actively engages in social and political matters.
