Early Life and Training

Alexander Gil was born into a family with a strong artistic background. He began his dance training in 1960 at the Poltava Theater named after Gogol, under the tutelage of Arnold Arkadievich Nyumen.

Foundation of the "Mengo" Ensemble

In 1965, Gil embarked on a journey to Kamchatka, where he played a significant role in the establishment of the Koryak dance ensemble "Mengo." The ensemble initially operated as an amateur group but was later recognized as a professional choreographic collective in 1974.

Artistic Leadership and Legacy

Alexander Gil served as the artistic director of the "Mengo" ensemble until his untimely passing. His leadership and dedication transformed the group into a renowned State Academic Koryak National Dance Ensemble. The ensemble proudly bears his name and continues to honor his legacy under the artistic direction of Merited Artist of the USSR Mark Nyumen.

Family and Legacy

Gil's passion for dance continued through his family. His son, Taras, is a talented dancer in the "Mengo" ensemble, while his widow, Ekaterina Trifonovna, published a book of memoirs titled "Life in Dance," which celebrates Gil's contributions to the art of choreography.
