Alexander Helios: Son of Antony and Cleopatra

Alexander Helios was born around 40 BCE as the son of the Roman triumvir Mark Antony and the Egyptian queen Cleopatra VII. He had a twin sister, Cleopatra Selene II.

Recognition and Marriage Plans

In 37 BCE, Antony acknowledged Alexander as his legitimate son and married his mother. In 34 BCE, planning a war against Armenia, Antony offered Alexander in marriage to King Artavasdes of Armenia, but upon refusal, invaded Armenia. After his victory, he betrothed Alexander to Iotapa, the daughter of the Median king Artavasdes.

Proclamation as King

Upon returning to Alexandria, Antony proclaimed Alexander as King of Armenia, Media, and Parthia. He presented Alexander to the public in traditional Median attire.

Capture and Triumph

After Antony's defeat and death in 30 BCE, Alexander was captured by Octavian Caesar. In 29 BCE, he was paraded in Octavian's triumph in Rome.

Childhood and Death

Alexander was then raised in the household of Octavia, Octavian's sister andAntony's wife. It is believed that he died in childhood.
