Early Life and EducationAlexander Julius Paul Dorn was born on June 8, 1833, in Riga. He was the son and pupil of Heinrich Dorn, a renowned composer. Dorn's early musical education began under his father's tutelage.
Musical Career in Europe and Beyond
Following his studies, Dorn embarked on a musical career that spanned various continents. He taught music privately in Poland before leading German male choirs in Cairo and Alexandria in the early 1860s. In 1865, he became the director of the Liedertafel in Krefeld, Germany. In 1869, he was appointed as a piano instructor at the Berlin Hochschule für Musik.
Compositions Inspired by the Orient
Dorn's compositions included various piano works, notably his "Arabian Melodies" Op. 34 and "Arabian Tunes" Op. 35, which were influenced by his time spent in Egypt. He also composed choral music and songs.
