Childhood and Early Career
Alexander Koreshkov was born in Ust-Kamenogorsk, Kazakhstan, on April 23, 1968. He began playing hockey for Torpedo Ust-Kamenogorsk in the Soviet Union.
Professional Career in Russia
In 1991, Koreshkov moved to Magnitogorsk Metallurg in the Russian Super League, where he played for ten seasons. He served as the team's captain and formed a formidable line with his younger brother, Evgeny. During his time in Magnitogorsk, Koreshkov twice won the Russian Championship and claimed two Euroleague titles.
International Career
Koreshkov represented Kazakhstan at the Winter Olympics and World Championships. He was a key member of the team alongside his brother, Evgeny.
Return to Kazakhstan
After a brief stint with various Russian clubs in 2004/05, Koreshkov returned to his hometown team, Kazcink-Torpedo. In 2007/08, he joined Barys Astana, winning the Kazakhstan Championship and reaching the quarterfinals of the VHL.
Retirement and Coaching Career
Koreshkov retired from playing in 2010 and subsequently took on the role of Head of Youth Hockey Development at the Kazakhstan Ice Hockey Federation.
Family Legacy
Alexander Koreshkov comes from a family of hockey players. His brothers, Evgeny, Igor, and Dmitry, also pursued the sport to varying degrees of success. His nephew, Rostislav, is also a hockey player.
