General Director of "Zarya" Agricultural and Land Lease Enterprise
Born in the village of Kirillovka, Kharkiv region, on June 4, 1952, Oleksiy Marchenko is the General Director of "Zarya" Agricultural and Land Lease Enterprise.
Early Life and Education
Growing up in a farm family, Marchenko graduated from high school in 1967. He then pursued studies in zootechnics at Lipkovatka Agricultural College and later obtained a degree in zooengineering from Kharkiv Zoo Veterinary Institute (1981). His educational pursuits also included law studies at the Yaroslav the Wise National Law University (2000).
Military Service and Early Career
Prior to his agricultural endeavors, Marchenko served in the Soviet Army from 1971 to 1973. Following his military service, he worked as a zootechnician for "Stepok" state farm and later as a chief zootechnician for "20th Party Congress" collective farm.
Leadership at "Zarya"
In the 1980s, Marchenko assumed leadership roles at various agricultural enterprises, including "Zarya Kommunizma" collective farm, which he chaired from 1985 to 1993. From 1994 to 1999, he served as chairman of Agricultural Cooperative Society "Zarya."
In 1994, Marchenko became a People's Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada (Parliament) of Ukraine, serving until 1998. Subsequently, he became the General Director of "Zarya" Agricultural and Land Lease Enterprise in 2000, a position he holds to this day.
Honors and Recognition
In 2004, Marchenko was bestowed the title of Hero of Ukraine for his exceptional contributions to Ukraine's agro-industrial sector, particularly for his achievement of record agricultural production in the region. He has also been recognized as a Honored Worker of Agriculture of Ukraine (2002) and has received accolades from the Kharkiv Oblast authorities.
