Ukrainian Artist and Zoo Owner to Live in Lion Enclosure for a Year
Alexander Plyushchenko, a Ukrainian wildlife artist, blacksmith, and owner of his own mini zoo, recently announced a remarkable endeavor: he will once again live inside a cage with lions. This initiative aims to raise awareness about animal welfare and collect 365,000 Ukrainian hryvnias (approximately $45,000) to establish a rehabilitation center for lions and other big cats.
Previous Record-Breaking Experiment
In 2011, Plyushchenko set a record by residing in a cage with his lions for an unprecedented 35 days. During this time, he collected funds exclusively for the upkeep of his zoo, where he houses a bear, a lynx, ferrets, peacocks, and the two lions he intends to share his living space with.
New Experiment and Goals
Plyushchenko's upcoming experiment will span an entire year, with him dividing his time between the cage and his home, accompanied by his lions. As an artist, he plans to sketch and draw during his time inside the enclosure, as well as pen a book about lions. Several video cameras will be installed in the cage to livestream footage on Plyushchenko's website.
