Klashorst was born on February 11, 1957, in Santpoort, Netherlands. From 1976 to 1981, he studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, where he honed his artistic skills.
Artistic Breakthrough
In 1987, Klashorst collaborated with Czech-German artist Jiří Georg Dokoupil to establish the "After Nature" movement, a branch of New Expressionism. His powerful abstract works featuring bold brushstrokes and vibrant colors gained international recognition.
Travels and Inspiration
Klashorst embarked on extensive travels to Africa and Southeast Asia in search of subjects for his paintings and photographs. His experiences abroad influenced his work, adding an exotic dimension to his artistic expression.
Controversies
In the late 20th century, Klashorst faced controversy during his travels in Africa. He was briefly imprisoned in Senegal on suspicion of exploiting local women for his art. However, he subsequently fled the country and continued his travels in other regions.
