Alexander Tikhonovich Biography
Alexander Tikhonovich was a Soviet and Belarusian pop singer and former member of the ensemble "Verasy". He was born on December 14, 1956, in the Belarusian SSR. Tikhonovich graduated from the brass department, specializing in tuba, at the Belarusian Conservatory.
Career
In 1973, Tikhonovich joined the popular Minsk VIA "Verasy" and played bass guitar, trumpet, and provided vocals for the ensemble. It was during his time in "Verasy" that he met and later married Jadwiga Poplawska, who was also a member of the ensemble.
In 1986, Tikhonovich and Poplawska were forced to part ways with "Verasy", and in 1987, they joined the newly formed State Orchestra of Belarus under the direction of Mikhail Finberg.
After winning the "Pesnya 88" competition with the song "Happy Accident" (music by Eduard Hanka, lyrics by Larisa Rubalskaya), Tikhonovich and Poplawska formed a duet with the same name. This duet later evolved into a group, with Tikhonovich playing bass guitar and serving as the vocalist. The group participated in the "Golden Lyre" festival in Belarus and toured extensively in Russia, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, Germany, Yugoslavia, Poland, Hungary, Finland, France, Canada, and Israel.
Later Years and Legacy
In 1988, Tikhonovich and his wife established the Song Theater of Jadwiga Poplawska and Alexander Tikhonovich, which later transformed into a production center for Tikhonovich and Poplawska. Many young Belarusian performers, including Alexander Solodukha, the group "Lyapis Trubetskoy", and Nikita Fomin, were nurtured and supported by their studio.
Tikhonovich played the lead role in the melodrama "The Apple of the Moon" (working title "Paradise Apples"), directed by Yuri Elkhov and written by Georgy Marchuk.
Personal Life
Tikhonovich was married to Jadwiga Poplawska, and they had a daughter named Anastasia Tikhonovich, who became a Belarusian singer. They also had a grandson named Ivan.
Awards and Accolades
