Alexander Zakharov Biography

Alexander Zakharov is a renowned artist known for his unique and whimsical artwork. Born in Moscow, Russia in 1965, Zakharov developed a passion for art from a young age. He believes that within each of us lives a child, and it is this childlike innocence and wonder that he aims to capture in his artwork.

Zakharov studied at the Art School named after 1905 in Moscow from 1976 to 1980, where he honed his artistic skills. In 1982, he was accepted as a member of the Youth Section of the Union of Artists of the USSR. He continued to pursue his artistic career, becoming a member of the Print Club of New York in 1997.

Throughout his career, Zakharov has participated in numerous exhibitions both in Russia and internationally. Some of his notable exhibitions include the All-Union Exhibition of Young Artists at the Central Exhibition Hall in Moscow in 1984 and 1986, as well as the Exhibition of New Chamber Art at the Arbat Exhibition Hall in Moscow in 1987.

Zakharov's artwork is characterized by its miniature size and attention to detail. He believes that through his art, he can create a window into a world reminiscent of childhood fantasies. His artwork often features small objects and creatures, which he believes have a life of their own. Pollock and Lee Krasner Foundation Grant in 1991 and the Brandwine Workshop Grant in Philadelphia in 1994. He has also won the first prize in the competition organized by the Union of Illustrators, "The New York Times," and the magazine "Worth" for the best illustration in New York in 1997.
