Literary Career
The Mystic France: Exposing Religious EccentricitiesIn 1855, Erdan published his seminal work, "La France mystique, ou tableau des excentricit?s religieuses de ce temps," which mercilessly exposed the excesses of religious fanatics. The book's popularity earned Erdan notoriety and the wrath of the authorities.
Imprisonment and Exile
For his controversial writings, Erdan was sentenced to prison. However, he escaped captivity and sought refuge in Switzerland, where he founded the newspaper "Le National Suisse." Later, he lived in Italy as a correspondent for various French newspapers, including "Presse," "Si?cle," and "Temps."
