Early Career
Alexey Antonov, a Ukrainian footballer born and raised in Pavlograd, began his footballing journey at the local youth academy, Meteorite. Trained by his father, Gennadiy Antonov, he later joined the Dnipropetrovsk Sports Boarding School and Football Club Dnipro.
Professional Club Career
Antonov started his professional career with Dnipro-2 in 2002 before moving to FC Kuban Krasnodar in 2004. He appeared in 5 matches and scored 1 goal for the main team and played several games for the reserve team. In 2007, he was loaned to FC Metalist Kharkiv, who later signed him permanently.
Antonov was loaned to FC Zorya Luhansk in 2008 but suffered a serious ligament injury that sidelined him for a prolonged period. He made his return to football in 2010 with FC Illichivets Mariupol.
Rise to Prominence
In 2011, Antonov joined FC Dnipro, where he made a remarkable impression, scoring 4 goals in his first two matches. However, his scoring form waned, and he was eventually loaned to FC Kryvbas Kryvyi Rih.
In 2013, he signed with FC Chornomorets Odesa, where he became one of the team's top goalscorers. His performance earned him recognition as one of Ukraine's best forwards.
International Career
Antonov represented Ukraine at various youth levels, including the U-17, U-19, and U-21 teams. He made his debut for the senior national team in 2011 and has been called up sporadically since then.
