Biographical Sketch of Oleksiy Onyshchenko
Oleksiy Onyshchenko is a renowned Ukrainian scholar, philosopher, culturologist, and academician. As the Secretary Academic of the History, Philosophy, and Law Section of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (NASU), he has made significant contributions to the intellectual landscape of Ukraine. He is also the esteemed Director General of the V. I. Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine.
Early Life and Education
Born in 1937, Oleksiy Onyshchenko completed his academic journey with a Doctorate in Philosophy and a Professorship from the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv in 1956. His pursuit of advanced research led him to the Institute of Philosophy at the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR, where he graduated from the postgraduate program in 1962.
Academic Career
From 1962 to 1978, Onyshchenko served as a researcher at the Institute of Philosophy of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR. During this time, he rose through the ranks, eventually holding the position of Deputy Director for Scientific Research. In 1978, he became the Director of the Kyiv branch of the Inter-Republican Affiliate of the Academy of Social Sciences.
National Library Leadership
Since 1992, Oleksiy Onyshchenko has helm the National Library of Ukraine named after V. I. Vernadsky. Under his leadership, the library has undergone significant modernization and has become a vibrant center for research and scholarship.
Scholarly Contributions
Throughout his career, Onyshchenko has authored and co-authored over 300 scientific publications, including 17 monographs. His expertise in philosophy, culturology, and librarianship has made him a sought-after contributor to numerous scholarly journals, including "Library Bulletin," "Higher Education of Ukraine," and "Bulletin of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine."
