Early Life and Career
Oleksiy Stavnitser, a Ukrainian entrepreneur, was born in Ukraine. Before embarking on his empresarial ventures, he worked as a professional mountaineer at the "Terskol" tourist base of the USSR Ministry of Defense. In this role, he organized large-scale military mountaineering expeditions on Mount Elbrus and served as the head of the educational department at the "Shkhelda" mountain climbing camp.
Establishment of the Elbrus Training Center
Stavnitser's passion for mountaineering led him to establish the "Elbrus" educational and methodological center. This facility specialized in training instructors, mountaineers, industrial climbers, special forces personnel, and border guards.
Business Ventures: Everest and TransinvestService
In the 1990s, Stavnitser founded and owned the company "Everest," which operated grocery supermarkets under the names "Troitsky" and "Everest," as well as an alcoholic beverage store called "Napitki Richelieu" and a weapons store named "Gralan." In 1994, he co-founded "TransinvestService" (TIS) with O. D. Kutateladze.
Development of TransinvestService
Under Stavnitser's leadership, TIS grew to become Ukraine's largest private port. It operated six berths with a total length of 2 kilometers and a total investment of $370 million. In 2011, TIS handled 17.2 million tons of cargo, making it the third largest port in Ukraine overall and the largest in terms of dry cargo. The port also owned coal, ore, and container terminals.
Legacy
Oleksiy Stavnitser passed away on February 27, 2011. He is survived by his sons, Yegor Grebennikov and Andriy Stavnitser, both of whom are entrepreneurs and co-owners of TIS. Stavnitser's contributions to the transportation industry were recognized with the "National Maritime Rating of Ukraine" Man of the Year in Transport awards in 2008 and 2009.
