Gordon Moore, the founder of Intel Corporation, was born in San Francisco, California. He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 1950 with a Bachelor's degree in chemistry. He then went on to earn a Doctorate degree in chemistry and physics from the California Institute of Technology.

While studying at San Jose State University, Moore met his future wife. In 1968, Moore founded Intel Corporation and served as the vice president for a period of time. In 1975, he was offered the position of president and executive director, which he accepted and held until April 1979. It was during this time that he was appointed chairman of the board of directors and CEO. Moore's leadership continued until 1987.

In 1997, Moore became an honorary chairman of the board of directors. By then, he had reached retirement age.

Moore gained popularity in April 1965 when he published his famous article, "Moore's Law," which revolutionized the field of semiconductors. Thirty years later, Moore made significant changes to his own law, which became foundational in the semiconductor industry. He received numerous awards and recognition for his contributions, including the Medal for Outstanding Achievements in Technology in 1990.

Currently, Moore is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, an honorary member of the Institute of Engineers, and chairman of the board of trustees for the California Institute of Technology. Additionally, a library in Cambridge is named after him and his wife. Moore is also known for his philanthropy. In 2001, he and his family donated $600 million to the California Institute of Technology, marking the largest donation ever made to a university at that time. The purpose of Moore's generosity was to support advanced research.

In 2004, Forbes magazine listed Moore as one of the wealthiest individuals on the planet, ranking him 75th. At that time, his net worth was estimated to be approximately $6 billion.
