Cardinal and Author

Cardinal Mario Rampolla del Tindaro(1843-1913) was an Italian cardinal and writer who served the Catholic Church in several prominent roles.

Archbishop and Vatican Librarian

On August 20, 1880, Rampolla was appointed Archbishop of Capua, a position he held until November 14, 1912. He also served as Librarian of the Holy Roman Church from April 29, 1890, until his death.

Cardinalate

On July 27, 1885, Rampolla was elevated to the Cardinalate by Pope Leo XIII and granted the titular church of Santi Nereo e Achilleo. In 1886, he was reassigned the titular church of Santa Maria del Popolo.

Appointment by Pope Leo XIII

Pope Leo XIII appointed Rampolla to three significant roles: Vatican Librarian, Archbishop of Capua, and Cardinal. Rampolla's accomplishments and contributions to the Church during this period left a lasting legacy.
