Early Life and Youth Career

Born in Deventer, Netherlands on August 27, 1969, Alfred Knippenberg developed a passion for football from a young age. His exceptional talent was quickly recognized, leading him to join the Deventer youth academy and later represent the Netherlands youth national team, often as captain.

Professional Debut

At the age of 16, Knippenberg made his professional debut for Go Ahead Eagles in the Dutch Eredivisie on August 16, 1986. Playing as a right-back against Excelsior, he made an immediate impact with his impressive skills and determination. Despite Go Ahead Eagles' relegation to the Eerste Divisie that season, Knippenberg remained with the club for another year, solidifying his position as a regular member of the squad.

Club Career

Throughout his career, Knippenberg represented several Dutch clubs. After leaving Go Ahead Eagles in 1988, he joined DS'79 and later moved to Heracles. He then returned to Go Ahead Eagles for the 1991/1992 season, where he saw limited playing time. From 1993 to 1996, Knippenberg played for four different clubs: Telstar, Go Ahead Eagles (third spell), VVV-Venlo (on loan), and PEC Zwolle. He retired from professional football in 1996 but continued to play at the amateur level.
