Biography of a Lithuanian Historian
Early Life and EducationBorn in Lithuania, the historian graduated from high school in Telšiai in 1974. He then pursued his passion for history at Vilnius University, earning a degree from the Faculty of History in 1979.
Academic Career
From 1979 to 1989, he served as an assistant at the Faculty of History, Vilnius University. His research culminated in his doctoral dissertation, "Genesis of the Reformation in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania," which he successfully defended in 1987.
During his tenure at Vilnius University, he held various positions, including Associate Professor and Dean (1989-2002). In 1993, he became Head of the Department of History Theory and History of Culture. From 2002 onwards, he served as Professor and Vice-Dean of the Faculty of History.
Scholarly Contributions
His research focuses on the history of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, particularly during the Reformation period. He also has expertise in the theory and didactics of history.

Personal Life
He is married and has two children, Mangirdas (born 1978) and Jogailė (born 1983).
