Ali Masimli

Early Life and Education

Ali Masimli was born on January 3, 1953, in Shaki, Azerbaijan. He graduated from the Faculty of Political Economy at the Azerbaijan Institute of National Economy in 1975, earning a degree in economics.

Military and Academic Career

From 1975 to 1976, Masimli served in the Soviet Armed Forces in Kazakhstan. Subsequently, he worked at the Institute of Economics of the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, starting as a laboratory assistant and eventually becoming the head of a department.

Political Beginnings

In 1990, Masimli was elected to the Supreme Council of the Azerbaijan SSR as a deputy from the Gyanjlik constituency in Baku. He served as a consultant to the President of Azerbaijan and held various positions in the government, including Chairman of the Foreign Investment Committee and First Deputy Prime Minister.

Prime Ministership and Subsequent Career

From February to April 1993, Masimli served as Acting Prime Minister of Azerbaijan. He later became president of the Union of Independent Economists and founded the Fund for Aid to Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons.

Legislative Experience

In 2005, Masimli was elected to the National Assembly of Azerbaijan (Milli Majlis) from the Sheki constituency. He served as a deputy in the third, fourth, and fifth convocations of the parliament.

Current Position

In the 2020 parliamentary elections, Masimli successfully ran for the Milli Majlis from the First Shaki Rural Constituency. He currently serves as the Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Economic Policy, Industry, and Entrepreneurship.

Personal Life

Ali Masimli is married and has two children.
