Biography of Alice Roy

Alice Roy, an American couturier, received a classical art and design education. She has a penchant for slightly "twisted" urban chic. Born Alice Roy Blumenthal, Ellis Roy had a tendency towards stylish clothing and unusual interior details from childhood. All her childhood games were always demonstrations - she would organize home shows for her friends and family.

Her father passed away when she was 12 years old. Later on, she would drop her father's surname from her name, and her surname would become "Roy," which would mean "royal" to her. On the label of the future fashion designer and clothing designer Ellis Roy, a small tiara is depicted. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from New York University. She later held various positions in the so-called "fashion industry." Having gained considerable experience, she could have made a good career there, but the role of a "fashion" consultant did not fully satisfy ambitious Ellis, and she decided to take a risk and open her own design project.

Ellis Roy's very first collection was a resounding success, thanks to the fashionable New York store "Kirna Zabete," which immediately embraced the young talented couturier. Participating in the Spring-Summer show during New York Fashion Week in 2001 also brought commercial success to Alice Roy.

However, in the fashion business, commercial success is not the determining factor. Alice Roy was much more pleased with the recognition among the fashion masters, as in the same year, 2001, she was accepted into the Council of Designers of the prestigious American "Perry Ellis Award." In the same year, Alice Roy won the prestigious "fashion" competition for young designers in Paris - "Moët & Chandon."

Now her clothing and accessories have appeared on the glossy pages of leading fashion magazines such as "Bazaar," "Elle," "Nylon and style bibles ID," and "V." Her style seems provocative and ironic to many. Alice Roy says she draws inspiration from the city where she grew up - New York. Her works look somewhat familiar. This gives a sense of nostalgia but also a feeling of modernity. Regardless of how one views her work, one thing is certain: Alice Roy is a great original!

In Roy's works, despite their completeness and certainty, there is a playful whimsicality. Boutiques like "Kirna Zabete" (in the Soho district of New York) and "Yasmin Cho" (in Soho, London) instantly sell out her collections - in the fashion world, there is currently a desire to bring back the wit and ability to parody that appeared in the 1980s.
