Early Life and Influences
Alina Orlova was born in Lithuania to a Polish father and a Russian mother. Her paternal grandparents were from Kazakhstan, while her maternal grandparents emigrated to Kazakhstan from Voronezh. When her parents were young, their families relocated to Lithuania, where they lived as neighbors and eventually became friends.
Education and Debut Album
Orlova attended a Lithuanian school in Visaginas. In 2008, she released her debut album, "Laukinis Šuo Dingo" (Wild Dog Dingo). The title plays on the novel of the same name by Ruvim Frayerman, but the Lithuanian translation suggests "Wild Dog is Gone." British critics have described Orlova's genre as "invigoratingly dark Baltic folk-pop," while Russian critics categorize it as psychofolk.
Live Debut and "Dark World" Soundtrack
The album's live debut took place in January 2008 at St. Catherine's Church, with the concert broadcast on a major Lithuanian television channel. Orlova's song "Spi" (Sleep) was featured in the film "Dark World."
2010s: Acclaim and Festival Appearances
2010 saw the release of Orlova's second album, "Mutabor." Moscow music journalist Boris Barabanov praised Orlova's originality and her ability to secure bookings at festivals, where she became a popular guest performer.
