Elaine May McMahon
Elaine May McMahon, an American actress, was born in 1900 in McKeesport, Pennsylvania. Despite her Irish surname, McMahon was of Jewish descent. Her childhood was spent in New York City, where she attended Erasmus Hall High School in Brooklyn and Barnard College.
Early Career
In the early 1920s, McMahon began performing on Broadway. Her film debut came in 1931 with "The Five Last Stars." Throughout her career, McMahon alternated between stage and screen roles.
Oscar Nomination and Film Success
In 1944, McMahon received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in "Dragon Seed." Other notable film credits include "Cimarron" (1960), "The Search" (1948), and "One Way Passage" (1932).
Personal Life and Legacy
In 1928, McMahon married renowned architect Clarence Stein. They remained married until his death in 1975. McMahon passed away in 1991 from pneumonia at the age of 92 in New York City.
