Biography of Alison Arngrim
Alison Margaret Arngrim was an American actress, born on January 18, 1962, in New York, USA. She is the sister of actor Stefan Arngrim and gained fame for her role as Nellie Oleson in the NBC television series "Little House on the Prairie" (1974-1983).
Acting Career
Arngrim made her television debut in the series "Room 222" (1969-1974). However, it was her role as the rebellious and disobedient Nellie Oleson in "Little House on the Prairie" that brought her true fame. In later interviews, Arngrim described playing Nellie as having PMS for seven years straight. Interestingly, she auditioned for the roles of Mary Ingalls and later Laura Ingalls in the series, but ultimately landed the role of Nellie. She remains close friends with Melissa Gilbert, who played Laura Ingalls in the series.
Arngrim also appeared in episodic roles in television projects such as "The Love Boat" (1977-1986) and "Fantasy Island" (1978-1984). She also had film roles in "I Married Wyatt Earp" (1983) alongside Marie Osmond and independent films like "For the Love of May" (2000) with RuPaul and Patricia Neal, and "Last Place on Earth" (2002) with Billy Dee Williams and Phyllis Diller. Arngrim expanded her acting career to French films, playing the character Edith in Jean-Pierre Mocky's detective comedy "Le Deal" (2007).
She also showcased her talent on stage, appearing in productions such as "The Siren: Queen of the Tango," "Butterflies Are Free," "Caught in the Laughter," "Dear Brutus," "The Wool Gatherer," "The Crying Game," and the French farce "From One Bed to Another." As a budding comedian, Arngrim hosted parties at popular nightclubs like "The Laugh Factory," "Comedy Store," "L.A. Connection," and "Montage" in New York City. Her one-woman show, "Confessions of a Prairie Bitch," became hugely popular not only in America but also worldwide. Starting at the "Fez" club in New York City, the show now tours in Los Angeles, Seattle, Maui, and even France, where it is performed in French.
Philanthropy
In addition to her acting career, Arngrim is involved in charitable work. In 1986, after the death of her friend, actor Steve Tracy, from AIDS, she immediately became a volunteer at the Los Angeles AIDS Hotline and helped develop the "Safer Sex" projects. She advocated for the education of AIDS in schools and universities. Arngrim also became the host of the popular talk show "A Look at AIDS."
Personal Life
On November 6, 1993, Arngrim married musician Robert Paul Schoonover. They currently reside in Los Angeles.
