Alison Moira Clarkson, known professionally as Alison Moira, is an English singer and songwriter. She rose to fame in the late 80s and early 90s through her collaboration with the group 'The Beatmasters' and her subsequent solo career.

Early Years and Musical Beginnings

Alison Moira began her professional involvement with music while still in school. She released her first professional recording as a schoolgirl on the album of the British hip-hop group 'She Rockers', released under the label 'Music of Life'. This experience led her to move to New York, where she worked with the group 'Public Enemy'.

Rise to Popularity

Alison Moira gained significant success with the song 'Hey DJ - I Can't Dance (To That Music You're Playing)' by 'The Beatmasters'. This was followed by her first solo single, 'Doin' The Do', which was also well-received. Her debut album, 'Boomania', was written and partially recorded in Moira's own bedroom, yet still achieved platinum status. Her next single, 'Where Are You Baby?', reached third place in the music charts, becoming Moira's highest-charting single to date.

Continued Career and Awards

In 1991, Alison Moira received the BRIT Award for Best British Breakthrough for her first album and three singles. However, her second album, 'GRRR! It's Betty Boo', did not sell well, with only the single 'Let Me Take You There' achieving some success. Moira's solo career was also affected by her mother's terminal illness, leading her to take a break from music.

Songwriting and Recent Work

At the request of Chris Herbert, who was forming a new girl group, Alison Moira began writing songs. Her inspiration eventually led Herbert to create the legendary group 'Spice Girls'. Moira also wrote songs for 'Girl Thing', 'Girls Aloud', Louise Nurding, Dannii Minogue, 'The Tweenies', and Sophie Ellis-Bextor.

In August 2007, Alison Moira released her latest solo single, which showcased her classic Betty Boo style with a stronger dance element. While this remains her most recent solo work, Moira has not officially announced the end of her solo career.
