Biography of Alona Bondarenko
Alona Bondarenko is a Ukrainian tennis player and the former number one player in Ukraine. She was born on August 13, 1984, in Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine, and currently resides in Kharkiv, Ukraine. Standing at 169 cm tall and weighing 55 kg, Bondarenko is a right-handed player with a two-handed backhand. Her mother, Natalia Bondarenko, is her coach.
Tennis Career
Bondarenko achieved her best singles ranking of 19 in April 2008. In the same month, she also reached her best doubles ranking of 14. Throughout her career, Bondarenko has won one WTA title, the Fortis Championships in 2006. She has been a finalist in two WTA tournaments, Warsaw in 2007 and Hyderabad in 2005. Additionally, she has reached the semifinals in Rabat in 2006 and the quarterfinals in Bali, Pattaya, Bangalore, Hobart, and Prague.
In doubles, Bondarenko has won two WTA titles. She was the winner of the Istanbul tournament in 2006, partnering with Anastasia Yakimova from Belarus. She also won the Australian Open in 2008, teaming up with her sister Kateryna Bondarenko.
Furthermore, Bondarenko has won four ITF singles titles and eight ITF doubles titles throughout her career. She has been a finalist in one ITF singles tournament and has achieved victories over notable players such as Svetlana Kuznetsova, Flavia Pennetta, Elena Dementieva, and Francesca Schiavone.
Family
Bondarenko comes from a tennis family. Her sisters, Valeria (born in 1982) and Kateryna (born in 1986), are also professional tennis players. Together, they have made a significant impact on Ukrainian tennis.
