Early LifeRobin Haase was born on April 6, 1987, in The Hague, Netherlands. He received his first tennis racket when he was just over two years old and started playing tennis around the same time. Robin grew up with his older brother Eric, who now works at General Electric, and his older sister Inga, who teaches German. Outside of the court, he enjoys reading, watching movies, traveling, and hanging out with friends. He also loves any sport, from hockey to basketball. As a junior, Robin considered the great Andre Agassi as his hero. He has no particular preference for courts, but if he had to choose, he would prefer clay.
Tennis Career
In his junior years, Haase showed promise and reached 3rd place in the junior rankings on March 14, 2005. Later that year, in 2005, he lost the Wimbledon junior final to Jérémy Chardy, who played as a junior for the last time. In July 2007, Haase reached his first ATP Tour semifinal at the Dutch Open in Amersfoort, where he defeated Frenchman Florent Serra from the top 100 in the quarterfinals. He eventually lost in straight sets to Werner Eschauer but reached the doubles final with compatriot Rogier Wassen, losing in straight sets with a score of 6-2, 6-0.
In August 2007, Haase achieved his first victory over a top 10 player by defeating Tomas Berdych at the Canadian Open. His Grand Slam debut came in 2007 at the US Open, where he qualified as a lucky loser due to Mario Ancic's withdrawal. He lost in the first round to Novak Djokovic, who eventually finished as the runner-up. In 2008, at Wimbledon, Haase played a five-set marathon match against Lleyton Hewitt in the first round, losing with a score of 6–7, 6–3, 6–3, 6–7, 6–2.
Haase returned to Wimbledon two years later but lost in the second round to world No. 1 and future champion Rafael Nadal with a score of 7–5, 2–6, 6–3, 0–6, 3–6. At Wimbledon in 2011, Haase defeated the 22nd-ranked Fernando Verdasco in the second round and fought against Mardy Fish in the third round before retiring due to a knee injury.
ATP Title
Haase won his first ATP title at the Austrian Open Kitzbuhel. He received a walkover in the first round due to Potito Starace's injury. In the second round, he defeated the 25th-ranked Feliciano Lopez, and a few hours later on the same day, he defeated Andreas Seppi in the quarterfinals with a score of 6-4, 6-2. In the semifinals, he defeated João Souza 6-1, 6-7, 6-4, and finally, in the final stage, Robin Haase emerged victorious against Albert Montanes with a score of 6-4, 4-6, 6-1.
