Aloysio de Andrade Faria
Early Life and Education
Aloisio de Andrade Faria was born in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. He pursued a Bachelor of Science and Arts degree at the University of Minas Gerais and later earned his doctorate from Northwestern University. Additionally, he received medical training and practiced medicine for a period of time.
Banking Career
In 1948, following the passing of his father, Aloisio took over the management of the family bank, Banco Real. Under his father's leadership, Banco da Lavoura had already established a significant presence in Brazil.
During Faria's tenure, Banco Real experienced rapid growth. In 1973, the bank embarked on an international expansion, establishing Grupo Real del Paraguay and acquiring Banco de Minas Gerais. Over the next fifty years, Banco Real amassed 512 branches in Brazil, making it the largest financial branch network in the country. It also had twelve international branches and ten financial offices in various cities worldwide.
Acquisition by ABN AMRO
In 1998, Banco ABN AMRO SA, the Brazilian subsidiary of ABN AMRO Bank, acquired Banco Real for $2.1 billion. Faria retained a portion of his assets, including a vast cattle ranch, soybean farms, hotels, radio stations, and retail stores.

As of 2007, Faria was listed as a billionaire with a net worth of $4.0 billion by Forbes magazine. He continues to be one of the most renowned Brazilian bankers and is known for his successful business ventures and investments.
