Early Life and Education

Born into a musical family, Erkesh Shakeyev spent his childhood surrounded by traditional Kazakh folk music. He attended the Zhambyl Cultural and Educational College before graduating from the Kұrmangazy National Conservatory in 1973.

Rise to Prominence

After graduating, Shakeyev took the helm of the Zhambyl Regional Philharmonic Society, where he established the renowned vocal and dance ensemble "Alatau." This ensemble gained widespread popularity within Kazakhstan and beyond.

Musical Career

Shakeyev's compositions have become beloved anthems in Kazakhstan. His songs, such as "Ayauly Tarazym," "Keneng Ata," and "Sagyndym Keneng Atamdyn," have touched the hearts of countless Kazakhs. In 1974, at the young age of 24, he penned the iconic song "Sagyndym Almatymy," which became an anthem for the city of Almaty.

Recognition and Honors

Shakeyev's artistic achievements have garnered him numerous accolades throughout his career. He is a laureate of the Lenin Komsomol Prize of the Kazakh SSR and a Merited Artist of the Kazakh SSR. In 1993, he was bestowed the title of People's Artist of Kazakhstan, followed by the same honor from Kyrgyzstan in 1994. In 2004, he received the prestigious State Prize of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Leadership and Impact

Currently, Erkesh Shakeyev serves as the head of the Kazakh State Concert Association "Kazakhconcert." Through his leadership, he continues to promote and preserve Kazakh cultural heritage.

Order of Honor

In recognition of his exceptional contributions to Kazakh music, Shakeyev has been bestowed with the highest honors of the Republic of Kazakhstan. He received the Order of Parasat in 2010 and the Order of Barys, 3rd degree, in 2016, presented by the President of Kazakhstan.
