Early Career with "La Oreja de Van Gogh"

In 1996, four friends from San Sebastian formed the band "La Oreja de Van Gogh" with the intention of playing songs from their favorite bands. The band members were Pablo, Arits, Alvaro, and Javi. However, they were missing a female vocalist. That same year, Pablo met Amaia at university and convinced her to join the band. This marked the beginning of their musical journey together.

The band started performing their own songs at bars in San Sebastian and gained attention from producer Alejo Stivel. In 1996, they released their debut album "Dile al sol," which sold 800,000 copies. Their success continued as they toured across Spain, achieving great acclaim and becoming a true triumph. In 1998, they were finalists at the San Sebastian Music Festival and won the "Breakthrough of the Year" award in 1999.

Solo Career and Success

In 2000, "La Oreja de Van Gogh" released their second album, "El viaje de Copperpot," which was recorded in Madrid, Paris, and London. The album sold 1,100,000 copies and became the second best-selling album in Spanish music history. Songs such as "Paris," "Soledad," and "Cuidate" became their signature hits.

In 2007, Amaia made the decision to leave the band and pursue a solo career. She released her debut solo album, self-titled "Amaia Montero," which was characterized as elegant. Although some fans noticed a lack of energy in her vocals, Amaia expressed her satisfaction with the album.

Her first solo album received Double Platinum certification for selling over 160,000 copies. Amaia embarked on a successful tour, expressing her excitement to perform live again. She described her new album as "guitar-driven" and elegant, trusting the musicians she worked with during its recording.

Overall, Amaia's transition from the band to a solo artist was met with success, and "La Oreja de Van Gogh" continued to enjoy popularity with a new lead vocalist.
