Biography of Neil Finn
Neil Finn is a popular New Zealand rock singer, born on May 27, 1958 in Te Awamutu, New Zealand. At birth, he was named Cornelius Mullane Finn. He studied at Sacred Heart, a Catholic school, and later attended Te Awamutu College. At the age of twelve, Neil decided that he wanted to become a musician.
Early Career
After graduating from school in 1975, Neil Finn formed a band called "After Hours". The band consisted of Mark Hughes, Jeff Chunn, Alan Brown, and Neil himself. Shortly after, Neil received an invitation to join "Split Enz", a band formed by his older brother Tim Finn. Neil contributed to the writing of many of the band's songs, including his most famous song "I Got You", which became an international hit. In 1984, Neil became the leader of the band after Tim Finn left.
Crowded House
In 1984, "Split Enz" disbanded and Neil Finn formed a new band called "The Mullanes", which included drummer Paul Hester, guitarist Craig Hooper, and bassist Nick Seymour. After Craig Hooper left the group, they changed their name to "Crowded House". In 1986, the band signed a contract with Capitol Records and traveled to Los Angeles to record their debut album. Although the album did not achieve great commercial success, the songs "Don't Dream It's Over" and "Something So Strong" reached high positions on the American charts.
Later Career and Solo Work
In July 1988, Crowded House released their second album "Temple of Low Men". In 1990, Neil Finn's older brother Tim Finn joined the band, and together they recorded the third album "Woodface". Several singles from the album, including "Weather with You", "It's Only Natural", and "Fall at Your Feet", entered the top 20 of the British charts, and the album itself reached the top 10. Crowded House achieved their greatest success in New Zealand and Australia, where all of their albums topped the charts.
After Tim Finn resumed his solo career, Mark Hart joined the band. In 1993, Crowded House released their last studio album "Together Alone", which featured a mix of grunge, glam rock, accordion solos, and Maori choir. However, the majority of the album consisted of classic songs written by Neil Finn. The band disbanded in 1996, and Neil Finn began his solo career.
In 1998, Neil Finn released his first solo album "Try Whistling This". In 2002, he performed several concerts to support his second solo album "One All". In addition to his musical career, Neil Finn is also involved in film. He composed the soundtrack for the movie "Rain" and is currently working on a new project.
