Amanda Doerty: A Dedicated Bodybuilder and Superfit Mother of Four
Amanda Doerty, a dedicated bodybuilder and mother of four, is so committed to her fitness regime that she rises before dawn to begin her workouts. Every morning, Doerty spends three hours at a gym in Melbourne before preparing enough food for seven full meals throughout the day. As a competitive bodybuilder approaching the age of forty, she has spent the last few weeks training rigorously for the upcoming 'Arnold Classic Australia' bodybuilding competition.

"I am truly devoted to this sport," says Doerty. "But I strive to balance it with my responsibilities as a mother. That's why I wake up so early." Doerty explains that she wakes up at 3am and has a cup of coffee before heading to the gym for a fasted cardio workout on the stepper for 40 minutes. "I make a protein shake for myself, and then it's time for weight training. I come home at 6:30am and start packing lunchboxes and sending the kids off to school." After that, Doerty prepares food for the entire day before heading back to the gym, which is managed by her husband Tony in Brunswick, where she also trains her clients.

"I really prefer to eat fresh food," says Doerty, "so I cook six to seven meals a day. Usually, I have oats with protein powder for breakfast and then consume five ounces of protein with one-third cup of brown rice every two hours." Doerty adds, "You have to work hard, and that requires sacrifices." By sacrifices, she means giving up an extra hour of sleep and even small compromises in her social life. "I never go out alone or have a drink by myself," clarifies the bodybuilder. "But there are minor sacrifices along the way. I can't hang around the school and chat with other moms because I have to go back to the gym."

Family and Inspirations
Doerty reveals that she prefers to spend all her free time with her children, whose ages range from five to thirteen. She acknowledges that her lifestyle does affect her loved ones. "They look at what I do, and I think they are mostly proud of me. Sometimes they get annoyed when the smell of salmon and meat fills the kitchen. But my approach definitely teaches them about proper nutrition."

"Our pantry is always stocked with delicious food," continues the mother of four. "It's never empty. The kids want to eat nutritious meals. If they want pie for dinner, they get it. I'm not worried because my kids are active." Doerty began bodybuilding at the age of nineteen but took a break at twenty-seven to start a family. "I gained 15-20 kg when I was pregnant with my first child. I ate more and had a greater need for food. People told me I was eating for two. But that's not the point. You're not eating for two, you need to eat enough for two."

As soon as Doerty gave birth to her fourth child, at the age of 35, she immediately returned to bodybuilding and never looked back. Last year, she competed in three bodybuilding competitions. In 2015, she hopes to participate in five competitions, including the 'Arnold Classic Australia'.

Celebrating her achievements on social media, Doerty has amassed a large following of around 50,000 followers on Instagram and Facebook. "I really enjoy sharing updates on Instagram and Facebook," says the bodybuilder. "The real reason I returned to the sport is to inspire others."
