Amanda Marshall, whose full name is Amanda Meta Marshall, was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada in 1972. Her family was quite unique, with her father being a native Canadian and her mother coming from Trinidad and Tobago, making Amanda describe herself as a "Canadian on the outside, but dark-skinned on the inside."

From an early age, Marshall had a passion for music and studied it at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. At the same time, she played in bars on Queen Street West, sometimes performing in multiple bars in one evening. It was during one of these performances that she caught the attention of Jeff Healey, who was amazed by her voice and extraordinary talent. Healey took her on a tour across the country.

In 1991, Amanda signed her first professional contract with the record label "Metalblade Records." However, the contract was soon terminated as neither party was interested in continuing the collaboration. A few months later, she was signed by Epic Records. Her debut album, titled "Amanda Marshall," was released shortly after. The album was particularly successful in Canada but gained popularity in the United States and Europe as well. Some of the most popular tracks on the album were "Let It Rain," "Beautiful Goodbye," "Dark Horse," "Fall From Grace," and "Birmingham."

In 1997, Amanda's song "I'll Be Okay" was included on the original soundtrack of the film "My Best Friend's Wedding." Her next album, "Tuesday's Child," was released in 1999. The album featured not only pop compositions but also several rock ballads that showcased Amanda's powerful and deep voice. The song "Ride" from the album was included in the soundtrack of the film "The Replacements." Another track, "Believe In You," was used in an episode of the TV series "Touched By An Angel," which also featured music by Bon Jovi.

Amanda's third album, "Everybody's Got a Story," was released in 2001 and had a noticeable influence of rhythm and blues. Several songs, including "Sunday Morning After" and "Everybody's Got a Story," received airplay on various radio stations and received positive reviews from critics who acknowledged Amanda's immense potential.
