Early Life and Tennis Beginnings

Born on June 30, 1982, in Tuzla, Yugoslavia (now Bosnia and Herzegovina), Amer Delic's family emigrated to the United States in 1996. Settling in Jacksonville, Florida, Amer pursued tennis at the University of Illinois. In 2003, he became the NCAA Division I champion in both singles and team competition.

Professional Career

Delic's professional tennis career began in 2003. After representing the United States until 2009, he switched allegiance to Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2010. His best Grand Slam performance came at the 2009 Australian Open, where he reached the third round. In 2005, Delic and Jeff Morrison reached the third round of the US Open in doubles. Notably, he defeated former world number three Nikolay Davydenko in the third round of the 2007 Miami Masters.

Davis Cup and National Team

Delic has represented Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Davis Cup since 2010. He helped his team defeat Turkey in 2012, winning in both singles and doubles matches.

Controversies and Injuries

In 2009, a match between Delic and Novak Djokovic at the Australian Open sparked a controversy. Clashing Serbian and Bosnian fans threw chairs at each other. Delic sustained a knee injury in the summer of 2009, causing him to miss the remainder of the year.

Return and Later Career

Delic attempted a comeback in 2010 but struggled to regain his previous form. Currently ranked around 400 in the world, he continues to train and compete on the lower levels of professional tennis.
