Biography of Amos Poe
Amos Poe is a New York-based director and screenwriter. He has been recognized by the New York Times as an innovative filmmaker in the field of independent cinema. Poe is known as one of the pioneering punk directors, and his 1976 music documentary "The Blank Generation" is considered one of the earliest punk films. The film, co-directed by Ivan Kral, features performances by Richard Hell, Patti Smith, Wayne County (a transgender artist), and the bands Television and Talking Heads.

In addition to his association with punk cinema, Poe is also associated with the subgenre of New York art-house cinema known as "No Wave Cinema." He wrote, directed, and produced the drama film "The Foreigner" in 1978, starring Debbie Harry and Anya Phillips. Poe also co-produced the thriller "Subway Riders" with Johanna Heer. The film features Susan Tyrrell, Robbie Coltrane, and Cookie Mueller.

Poe's involvement in television includes directing the public access TV show "TV Party," which aired from 1978 to 1982. The show featured guests such as Mick Jones, David Byrne, Debbie Harry, and Jean-Michel Basquiat. The show's hosts were Glenn O'Brien and Chris Stein.
As a member of the remodernist film movement, Poe aimed to transform existing cultural values using modern technology and sensitivity, rather than nostalgia. In a 1981 interview, he stated, "The importance of my work, as I see it, is to move the culture in the direction that I would like to see it go."
In 2008, Poe wrote the screenplay for the drama film "The Guitar," directed by Amy Redford and starring Saffron Burrows. In 2010, he directed the film "La commedia di Amos Poe" with Roberto Benigni, and in 2011, he joined the team of directors for the drama film "Exquisite Corpse 8MM Film Experiment."
