Gunn's breakthrough as a filmmaker came with the Marvel Studios adaptation "Guardians of the Galaxy" in 2014. He co-wrote and directed the film, which became a critical and commercial success. Its sequel, "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," followed in 2017.
