Amr Zaki: A Talented Egyptian Striker
Amr Zaki is a renowned Egyptian footballer who plays as a striker. Born in Mansoura, Egypt, he began his career with the local club Mansoura FC.
Early Career and Rise to Stardom
In 2003, Zaki joined INPPI, where he made a mark by winning the Egyptian Cup in 2005. He also secured the title of top scorer in the 2004/05 league season. His exceptional performance earned him attention from both local and international clubs.
International Success with Egypt
Zaki's international debut came in 2004. He became an integral member of the Egyptian national team, playing key roles in their triumphs at the 2006 and 2008 African Cup of Nations tournaments. In 2008, he finished as the second top scorer with four goals and was named to the tournament's All-Star Team.
Transfer to Lokomotiv Moscow
After his impressive showing at the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations, Zaki received offers from several top clubs, including Al Ain FC (UAE) and FC Nantes (France). However, he opted to join FC Lokomotiv Moscow for a transfer fee of $2 million.
Unsuccessful Stint in Moscow
Despite the high expectations, Zaki failed to make a significant impact at Lokomotiv Moscow. He made only two appearances in the youth team before returning to Egypt in August 2006.
Loan to Wigan Athletic
In July 2008, English Premier League club Wigan Athletic signed Zaki on loan for a season. He made an immediate impact, scoring on his debut against West Ham United and netting a brace against Hull City. His impressive start led Wigan chairman Dave Whelan to compare him to legendary striker Alan Shearer.
Return to Zamalek
On May 19, 2009, Zaki returned to his former club Zamalek FC. In October 2008, he was nominated for the African Footballer of the Year award but lost out to Emmanuel Adebayor of Togo.
