Amy Robsart Dudley, the first wife of Robert Dudley, was practically unknown during her lifetime but became famous due to her mysterious death. Her death remains the subject of historical debates and investigations. Amy Robsart was born on June 7, 1532, in Norfolk, England, to Sir John Robsart, a landowner. At the age of eighteen, she married Robert Dudley. Three years later, her husband was imprisoned in the Tower of London, where he spent two years. After his release, they lived in Norfolk, far from the court, for three years. This period was the happiest time in Amy's life.

After the ascension of Elizabeth I to the throne, Dudley spent most of his time at court. It was evident to all the courtiers that the queen loved Dudley. Dudley himself became increasingly prominent. Many believed that if Sir Robert were not married, the queen would undoubtedly have become his wife.
