Amy Tran: From High School Hesitation to Olympic Goalkeeper

Early Years

Amy Tran was born on October 2, 1980, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. She first encountered field hockey at Northern Lebanon High School due to the school's limited sports offerings. Despite initial reservations, Amy quickly discovered her talent and passion for the game.

Collegiate and National Success

After graduating from high school, Amy attended the University of North Carolina, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication and Speech & Hearing Sciences in 2002. During her college years, she played on USA Field Hockey's U-20, U-21, and U-23 teams, showcasing her exceptional skills.

Joining the National Team

In 2003, Amy joined the USA Field Hockey National Team as a goalkeeper. She quickly made a name for herself, debuting with an impressive performance against Mexico at the Pan American Cup.

Coaching and Tournaments

After participating in the U.S. National Team's series of games against Japan, Amy was recruited to Lafayette as an assistant coach, specializing in training goalkeepers and defenders. She has competed in numerous tournaments, including the USA vs India WC Qualifying Series, Champions Challenge, Pan American Games, Pan American Cup, Olympic Qualifying Tournament, and World Cup.

Olympic Dreams and Preparation

Amy is currently preparing for the upcoming Summer Olympics in China. She understands the weight of her responsibilities and trains diligently while allowing herself occasional indulgences in chocolate, movies, and music.
