Ana Belen, born Maria del Pilar Cuesta Acosta on May 27, 1951, in Madrid, is a Spanish actress and singer. She studied acting in Spain in her youth and began participating in television and film projects in the mid-1960s.
Early Career
During the filming of the movie "Morbo" directed by Gonzalo Suarez, Belen met actor Victor Manuel and they got married in Gibraltar in 1972. Around the same time, Ana started her singing career, releasing her album "Tierra" in 1973. The songs for this release, as well as for the album "Calle del Oso," were written by Victor Manuel and touched upon political and social issues.
Acting Career
Belen has appeared in a variety of films throughout her career, including "La peticion" by Pilar Miro, "Emilia parada y fonda" by Angelino Fons, "La oscura historia de la prima Montse" by Jordi Cadena, and "Sonambulos" by Manuel Gutierrez Aragon.
Personal Life
Ana Belen gave birth to her son David in 1976 and her daughter Marina in 1983. In 1991, she released the album "Como una novia" with songs by Gloria Varona, Pancho Varona, and Antonio Garcia de Diego, which was her first release without her husband's involvement. Her album "Mírame" was released in 1997 and became her best-selling work of her solo career.
Later Career
After the release of "Mírame," Ana embarked on a tour in Spain and then went to America with the tour "El gusto es nuestro," which was received with great success. In 1998, she released two albums titled "Lorquiana" in celebration of the 100th anniversary of Federico Garcia Lorca's birth. The albums featured a collection of Lorca's poems and popular songs based on his lyrics.
In the following years, Belen released the album "Cantan a Kurt Weill" and appeared in the TV series "Petra Delicado." She has appeared in over 30 films, received 5 nominations for the Goya Awards, the main Spanish film award, and acted in the comedy film "Cómo ser mujer y no morir en el intento" alongside Carmen Maura.
Awards and Recognition
In 1986, Ana Belen was awarded the Order of Arts and Letters by the French government. In 1995, she received the Golden Medal from the Spanish Film Academy.
