Sanaa Lathan, an American actress and recipient of the prestigious Tony Award, was born on October 19, 1971, in New York City to a Broadway dancer mother and a Los Angeles-based television executive father.

Early Life and Education
Lathan attended the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts in New York City before pursuing her higher education at the University of California, Berkeley, where she majored in English and foreign languages. She later transferred to the Yale School of Drama, where she earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in acting.
Early Career
After showcasing her talents in New York theater, Lathan relocated to Los Angeles, where she was cast in television roles. She made her film debut in 1996's "Drive" and rose to prominence with her role in 1998's "Blade."
