Ukrainian Soviet Analytical Chemist

Born in Ukraine, this renowned chemist made significant contributions to the field of analytical chemistry.

Education and Early Career

In 1927, he graduated from the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute and became a disciple of Academician N. A. Tananaev. He earned his doctorate in chemical sciences and became a professor at Kyiv University in 1943.

Professional Experience

His career began in 1927 as a lecturer at the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. In 1930, he joined the Kyiv Technological Institute of Food Industry. From 1934 onward, he taught at Kyiv University.

In 1939, he established the analytical department at the Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry of the Ukrainian SSR Academy of Sciences. He subsequently led that department from 1941.

From 1944, he concurrently headed the department of analytical chemistry at Kyiv University.

Scientific Contributions

His research primarily focused on the physical chemistry of complex compounds and their application in analytical chemistry, as well as on photometric and luminescent methods of analysis.

He elucidated the principles of stepwise dissociation of complex compounds in solutions. Using optical methods, he investigated the composition, stability, and dissociation of these compounds. Moreover, he explored ternary complexes involving metal ions, ligands, and organic bases.

Publications and Editorial Work

He published over 400 scientific papers and served as the chief editor of the "Ukrainian Chemical Journal" from 1958 to 1968.

Honors and Recognition

His accomplishments were acknowledged with the Order of Lenin, the Order of the Badge of Honor, and other medals. He was also designated a Merited Scientist of the Ukrainian SSR.
