Anatoliy Bliznyuk - Ukrainian State and Political Figure

Anatoliy Bliznyuk is a Ukrainian politician of Russian nationality. He was born on November 24, 1948, in the city of Kramatorsk, Donetsk Oblast. Bliznyuk completed his education with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Kramatorsk Industrial Institute in 1988 and a Master's degree in Economics and Entrepreneurship from Donetsk State University of Economics and Trade in 2000. In July 2002, he defended his dissertation for the degree of Candidate of Sciences in Public Administration.

Career

Bliznyuk began his professional career in 1966 as an assistant turbine mechanic at the Kramatorsk Metalurgical Plant named after Kuibyshev. After serving in the Border Troops of the KGB of the USSR, he worked as a gas worker, gas utility master, senior master of the blast furnace production unit, deputy chairman of the trade union committee, deputy director for commercial and financial issues, and first deputy director of the Kramatorsk Metallurgical Plant. He also served in a special unit of the KGB of the Ukrainian SSR in Donetsk Oblast.

From May 1990 to July 1994, Bliznyuk worked as the first deputy chairman of the executive committee of the Kramatorsk City Council and chairman of the board of directors of OJSC Kramatorsk Metallurgical Plant named after Kuibyshev. From May 1996 to June 1997, he served as the chairman of the executive committee of Kramatorsk City.

In June 1997, he was appointed Deputy Chairman of the Donetsk Oblast State Administration, and in October 1997, he became the First Deputy Chairman. From November 23, 2002, to January 21, 2005, Bliznyuk served as the Chairman of the Donetsk Oblast State Administration (Governor of Donetsk Oblast).

On March 26, 2006, he was elected as a Deputy of the Donetsk Oblast Council as the number one candidate on the Party of Regions' list. On April 26, 2006, he was elected as the Chairman of the Donetsk Oblast Council. Bliznyuk also served as the Deputy Chairman of the Donetsk Regional Branch of the Party of Regions. During the Extraordinary Parliamentary Elections in 2007, he led the regional electoral headquarters of the Party of Regions.

On March 18, 2010, by decree of the President of Ukraine, Bliznyuk was appointed as the Chairman of the Donetsk Oblast State Administration (Governor of Donetsk Oblast).

Personal Life and Honors

Bliznyuk is married to Liliya Andreevna, and together they raised two sons - Sergey and Alexey. In his leisure time, he enjoys playing the bayan. Bliznyuk has received several honors and awards for his contributions to the social, economic, and cultural development of Donetsk Oblast, including the Order "For Merits" of the II degree (November 19, 2008), Order "For Merits" of the III degree (November 20, 2003), and the Honorary Diploma of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine (February 21, 2000). He is also recognized as an Honored Worker of Industry of Ukraine.
