Biography of Anatoly Tsiganenko

Anatoly Tsiganenko is an academician, doctor of sciences, and a distinguished worker of higher education in Ukraine. He is the author of numerous scientific articles, monographs, and textbooks. Tsiganenko graduated with honors from the Kharkiv Medical Institute in 1954, and in 1956, he completed his postgraduate studies at the Department of Microbiology of the same institute. After finishing his postgraduate studies, he worked as an assistant and associate professor at the Department of Microbiology. Since 1971, he has been the head of the Department of Microbiology, Virology, and Immunology at Kharkiv National Medical University.

From 1964 to 1986, Tsiganenko served as the vice-rector for academic affairs at the Kharkiv Medical Institute, and in 1986, he became the rector of the institute. His scientific interests encompass a wide range of research in the field of subcellular and molecular mechanisms of antibiotic action, development of rational antibiotic therapy schemes, issues of immunomodulatory therapy, and chemotherapy of experimental tumors.

Under his scientific supervision, liposomal forms of antibiotics such as rifampicin, gentamicin, tetracycline, vibromycin, and synegynous anatoxin were obtained for the first time. Original methods for cryopreservation of liposomes and their long-term storage have been developed. Tsiganenko is the author of more than 300 scientific articles, 9 monographs, 12 textbooks, and study guides. He holds 11 author's certificates and patents.

He is a full member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Ukrainian Academy of National Progress, International Academy of Computer Sciences and Systems, Ukrainian Medical Dental Academy, New York Academy of Sciences, Polish Academy of Medical Sciences, and the World Academy of Medicine named after A. Schweitzer. Tsiganenko has received awards such as the Order of "Sign of Honor," "For Merit" III and II degrees, Honorary Diploma of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Honorary Badge of the President of Ukraine, Great Gold Medal of the World Academy of Medicine named after A. Schweitzer, and medals.
